What matters is not the title but the rigour, research conducted without consistent methodology, proper participant screening, or systematic analysis produces unreliable findings that can mislead product decisions more than having no research at all.

When UX research is done well, it aligns teams around user reality rather than internal opinion. It cuts the time spent debating hypothetical user behaviour. It gives product decisions an evidence base that is defensible to stakeholders, investors, and customers.
